Thank you for asking about your tortoise on Just Answer. Normal urates from a healthy tortoise should be the consistency of creme from a tube or like toothpaste. During certain times of their lives this might be silky like if they are having stomach problems from illness, parasites or low fiber diet.
Other things that can cause this is excess sugars, carbohydrates in the diet and too much protein can cause irritation to the bowels and mucoid discharges. A good diet increasing coarser or higher fiber foods and little in any fruits can help this. If it keeps up you might want to have him checked for parasites, protozoa and worms by a direct fecal exam and float.
Normal tortoise feces should be formed and only moist to dry, as should the urine/urates, they should not be mucous or liquid. Here is some care information with some diet info for you http://www.chelonia.org/Articles/russiantortoises.htm and here is a very advance guide on diet http://www.anapsid.org/tortdiet.html Thank you and please let me know if you need any more information, best to you and your tort
