OK try this.Where does the upper radiator hose go to on the motor. Is it on the passenger side headed towards the firewall or is it on the drivers side of the car. They changed the engine design right around that year and i just can't remember which one you have. The motor size is the same but the design is different.I imagine thats why the chiltons isn't helping you.

Answer

OK that is the newer version 3.0l The chilton's you have isn't telling you where it is because it is driven by the timing chain. I don't recomend doing this unless you are very mechanicly inclined. If it is done wrong you will have to take the cover off and reset the timing. This IS an interferance engine and engine damage can occur.
First thing to do is remove the small cover on the timing chain cover.Once you remove the cover you have access to the water pump.Set the engine at top dead center on the compression stroke. This way once the chain is loose you will already be set if you have to remove the cover and reset the chain. You should be able to see the chain and the bolts for the pump.Take a coat hanger hooked at the end and pull the chain towards the firewall, then remove the bolts for the pump.Keep tension on the chain at all times.Remove the pump and install the new one.At that point you can let the chain go back to the teeth on the waterpump.Use rtv to reseal the cover and you should be good to go!!!
I you need more help let me know!
Thanks
