Question

Hi, I just highlightd my hair about 30 min ago and it came out spotted, streaky and was not left on long enough. Can I put a temp. hair color all over my head right away?

Answer

Hi-

Yes, you can do this. However, the color you use now may not completely cover the highlighted hair, if the highlights were very light/blond. It would be in your best interest to head to a hair salon tomorrow to get the highlights fixed, rather than covering over them - if you don't want to wait (or spend the money), however, go ahead with the temporary color to see how well it covers the highlights. If needed, you can go to the salon as a last resort if the temporary color doesn't work.

Note, however, that the more you color your hair the more damage you are doing to it, so be sure to use extra conditioner and to take special care to be gentle with your hair.

Best regards,
Emily

If I am going to cover over them with a temp. color how will that affect the color when I do go and get them (highlights)fixed. Being that tomorrow is sunday and mon. is

Don't be so hard on yourself - I actually dyed my hair purple once by accident. I'm sure yours isn't as bad as purple!

If you go ahead with the temporary color, the salon may have to strip out the color and simply redye your hair. It might actually be in your best interest to redye with a perminant color - this would allow the salon to work with this color as your "base" color and apply highlights over this color to add depth. Yet another option would be for you to try and correct the highlights yourself - if you have any of the solution left you could try to match up the strands that were not colored correctly and make the overall highlights more even.

I'm not sure where you live, but I do know some salons are open on Sundays. They will likely be busy given that it's NYE, but you could still call around (one possibility is JCPenny's - not the best quality, but they are open Sundays).

Good luck!

Emily
