Question

I was married for five years and I got divorced. Me and my exwife are back together and are thinking of getting remarried. She has her orginal engagement and wedding rings that I gave her. When I ask her to remarry me, do I get a new engagement ring or do I give something else. Plus when we get married do we get new wedding rings or do we use our orginal ones.

Answer

Dear Sleep,
I would say since this is a new start, start with everything new. A new engagement ring and wedding bands would establish this fact. Then what you could do is take the original wedding rings and have a dinner ring or pendant made from the stones. This way it's still there, but in a new form just as your "new lives" will be.

However, this is something you should certainly discuss with your ex and see how she feels. If she's fond of her original rings, she may just want to use them.

Whatever you decide will be what's right for you.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

I don't think that would be a problem. It has to be a beautiful stone and in a new mounting, it will be a new ring. Is your ex okay with this? No one needs to know where the stone came from.

As for how much to pay, this depends on your financial circumstances. I recommend you spend only what you can afford. You can always upgrade, but it sound like, if it works for the two of you, you already have the stone or stones so it will be the cost of the setting. Find a good jeweler who can design something special for you. It can be in white or yellow gold or platinum (which is quite a bit more expensive). Then have the jeweler design a wedding band for you that matches, if budget will allow.
