VERY IMPORTANT!!!

did the soup have ANY onions or garlic in the ingredients?

are his gums pale?

Put two drops of pancake syrup on his tongue in case he is hypoglycemic and tell me if he perks up.

Thanks so much.

Tell your vet about the onions as they can cause heinz body anemia.Have him check your boys PCV immediately and push fluids IV or subQ.

tHANK YOU...i CALLED AND THE NURSE SAID THANK YOU FOR THE INFORMATION. i WAS UNAWARE THAT ONIONS ARE BAD FOR DOGS..yOU HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY HELPFUL. DO YOU THINK NITRO WILL SURVIVE THIS ORDEAL?

Answer

Dear friend,

I appologize, I was in a hurry to get that out to you.

Onions can cause a toxic anemia in some animals and have little effects on others. Here is info:

http://monkeymaddness.com/articles/onions.html

Also check for vestibular syndrome even though your baby is young:

http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_vestibular_disease.html

It does sound like a toxic reaction so it is really important to stabelize him with fluids until a definite diagnosis can be ascertained.

Please let me know what his PCV is and if he is getting a blood transfusion.I will be here til midnight and help in any way possible.

Yes! I think that because Nitro is young and you took immediate action and got him seen ASAP - he has a good chance. Tell your DVM to PUSH those fluids, though!!!!

I will be waiting to hear from you and praying for sweet Nitro so PLEASE let me know how he is as soon as you hear anything.

Very sincerely,

Terri
