Hi Washington,

It sounds like she may have a skin dermatitis such as yeast dermatitis. Yeast typically shows as a greasy area that has a sweet musty odor. Sometimes the skin can become inflamed, darker and thickened due to itching. Yeast likes areas such as between toes, armpits and ears. Selsun Blue Shampoo can help with Yeast dermatitis. You can also try some miconazole cream if the area is not too large. When shampooing, lather and leave on 15 minutes before rinsing. These shampoos are not meant to be a cure, just a relief until your pet can see a Vet.

I really suggest you have your Vet examine the areas and diagnose this.

Reply to Jane Lefler's Post: We have taken her to the Vet repeatedly, they have tried everything that they can think of. Allergy pills, steriods, anti itch pills, allergen free foods, restricted diet (the only meat or meat product is chicken) allergern free shampoo. Could you reccommend a Vet in the Nebraska area, along the Interstae 80 corridor to have her examined? We live in a VERY rural area and "special" breed dogs are rare.

Washington,

The following site should help you locate a veterinarian dermatologist.

A specialist can help locate the allergen which may not be food by the way and get a shot made especially for your dog to help the condition.
