Hi Nicole. All plastics can be recycled, and many are. As for how they do it, it depends on the type of plastic. Some can be melted down, some is chopped up, some is ground up, then it is used to make new items. They all have some pretty technical names but you don't have to worry about knowing them. The type is always shown on the bottom using a triangle with a number in it, and the initials. For example, most plastic milk jugs are high-density polyethylene. The bottom of the jug will have a number 2 in the triangle and it will say "HDPE". Different geographical areas have different capabilities for recycling. Some can do it all, some can only handle a few types, and so on. You would have to contact your local recycling office and/or your office that handles your trash pick up, to find out which types of recycling is available in your area.
