donald: in regards to the DVD issue, you will need to purchase a progressive-scan dvd player, because this TV is progressive-scan, which maximizes picture quality when the 2 are synced. Ask your sales rep about this. Anyway, this TV is HD compatible, but you will need to purchase a tuner for the programming. On a side note, programming with DirecTV has been known to be spotty, even with the best of tuners (Sony, namely). Wide-screen mode with satellite/cable programming is not recommended, as it tends to make the picture look awkward.
Anyway, I'm not sure what your situation is, so if you could elaborate further, this would be great. The XBR is NOT an integrated HDTV system, as few HDTV systems actually include the HD receiver with them. I recommend the Sony SAT-HD200, which is about 700 dollars (don't quote me on the price, but yes, they are that expensive). Regards.

I understand that I have to get either cable high definition or satelite hi-def. But what I want to know is how to set up my tv to receive the signal.

What do I need to do other then hook-up a hi-def. source?
