Question

I have a 99 yukon , the temp gage fluctuates to 250 and then back to normal, and the heater is intermittent, i replaced the thermostat but that didnt fix it, what else could be causing this ? thanks

I assume the "heater is intermittent" indicates that the heater gets hot and then cold. And also assuming the fluctuation of the temp gauge isn't rapid (indicating more a gauge problem than an actual problem). It could be a low coolant level, bad head or head gasket, or perhaps the more likely - the lower radiator hose could be sucking shut. Easy enough to check, with the hood up, idling, at operating temperature, either throttle the engine by hand, or have someone else do it, while watching the lower radiator hose. If it collapses, you'll need to replace it. Check it out and let me know.
