Were they dead or alive? Were they flat and what color?

Answer

If they were flat and white or cream colored they were tapeworms. If they were dead they would look a lot like sesame seeds. They get tapeworms by swallowing a flea that is carrying a tapeworm egg. The animal will pass all of them without you having to do anything. They will continue to get more if you do not get rid of the fleas. There is a medication that you can give to your pet that you can get from the vet. It will speed up the process of getting rid of the tapeworms- however once again- they will get them again when they swallow another flea.Normal worming medications will NOT rid the animal of tapeworms. Tapeworms are flat and are segmented so you may see a very short one or one that has a few segments still hooked together so it will be a little longer. When you see tem alive the will be sort of short and flat and look like rice. When they die they look more like sesame seeds and are a sort of opaque off white or tan color. If you found this helpful please remember to accept it.
