Question

I am 18 years old. I have always been really happy and optimistic. I've been involved with pretty much everything. Too much. I am VP of my Jr. Leader Club, a ten-year 4-h member, was captain of my soccer teams and a bunch of other stuff including jobs clubs and even homecoming queen. I live in this really sheltered little town in Indiana. I started getting sick of people and stuff this summer and about a month ago it seemed like it fell through. I am sick of people. I used to love meeting new people now it just pisses me off when people talk to me. My boyfriend andI just fight a lot and it adds on to it. The house I grew up in, that my grandparents built is in the process of being sold. My church, which is just one of those small country churches where only my family goes burnt down 2 days ago. And I felt like giving up before all this even happened, so now its worse. I'm sad all the time and cry all the time. I feel empty and it takes energy to laugh at anything.

Answer

Hi,

I think you are an optimistic person, It reflects from your effort to look at the bright side. There are changes going on in your life- some major ones at that. It is natural and alright to feel sad and angry the turn of events. Talk the feelings out with a person who will listen and understand like maybe your grandparents. This will help in moving on.

Regarding not liking people or fights with your boyfriend, these are happening probably because you are depressed. This is not going to stay long I feel considering that a people's person that you really are. From your description it looks like you are popular which is itself is quite an achievement.

You are right in saying you need to get over with this. As I mentioned before, talk to someone understanding and caring and let all the pentup emotions come out. I am sure you will feel much better and get over with this. If this doesnot work out or leaves you feeling depressed there's always the psycholoogical counsellor who is equipped to deal and show the way in such situations. Hope this has been helpful and you are welcome to ask if you still have questions.
