Question

We have a litter of three 7wk old boston terrier pups. One got in Zimectrin Gold horse wormer. My daughter had thrown away a tube after worming her horse. The tube had a very little for her to lick at the end, but it was enough to poison her. This happened 24 hrs ago. She started drooling, shaking, having seziers, and one of her eyes is really red in the cecter it looks like blood. We have been giving her fluids, and a little water with a syringe in her mouth. She is much more alert today but still will jerk some. Should we keep on with fluids, what should I do for her eye, And at this point does the nerologicle problems sound perminent.

A 3cc syringe behind the neck, on both sides, and farther down her back about every 4 hrs and we opend a can of iams puppy and was giving it with a dropper last night, now today she will lick it off your finger and she will stand up now but still jerky and will jump if she hears a loud noise or if you touch her and she dosent expect it

Dear friend,

You have done a great job of keeping her hydrated and her electrolytes balanced and stable. If not for your a efforts she would have died. Right now I am really concerned about kidney failure as aaresult of the strengh of the wormer. Try to get this baby to drink on her own and feed, feed, feed. The more food you get into her to dilute this product in the blood stream - the better.

She is hypersenstive to sounds and touch because of the neurological impact. Thie may resolve in time. As far as her eye she may have blown her retina or just a blood vessel. That too will have to wait and see.

There is not much more that can be done besides hospital care on IV and even with that there would be no guarantee. For now just conitnue with your excellent care and step up the food and the oral fuids.

I will be praying for this baby so please let me know how she is doing. If you still have questions I will be here for you.

Sincerest best wishes,

Terri
