What would be cheaper to build: attached or detached garage?

I am looking to build a 4 or 5 stall garage. Would it be cheaper to attach it to the house or to build a breeze-way in-between? I have about 70 feet to build what I need. I heard that if I attach the garage to the house I would have to fire proof the connecting wall and also put a foundation on the garage instead of a slab. Is this true?
