The book I have in mind is one that I read as a child back in the late 1950s in England. It is set in post WW2 in England. The plot is based around a group of young schoolboys who find an old door knocker. Once knocked a door appears and lets the boys into the past (as in a time- machine ). The part that I particularly remember involves the boys going back in time to Roman Britain.I also remember an incident when one of the boys has a nose bleed and a cold shield was placed on his back to stop the bleeding. I would deeply appreciate anyone's help in this matter.                 Cheers.

Still no word from the British library but I found a Children's Literature specialist at Ball University and I've emailed her.

..thank you for your help so far in this matter...unfortunately I can't recall any other details....however I seem to remember the door as being green..........good luck .

I'm sorry but I'm not able to find out anything about the books. All of the e-mails that have come back to me have been no help at all. I will post a message on the experts board to see if any other experts have any ideas.
