The splitting problem is common among all thr thin skinned citrus varieties. Normally the splits occur when the inside of the fruit, which is mostly juice grows faster than the peeling. Oranges with heavier peeling have a less chance of this happening. A fertilizer program can thicken the peel and make it stronger. The splitting is likely caused from stress and is weather related.
