Hello Maggie, thankyou for your question.
I am listing some possibles below for you.
Because there really is no "smaller' version you will need to buy with a guarantee on size if this is important to you.
It's simply another tactic to sell Labradors for a higher price than normal. A Labrador is bred for hunting and is a wonderful sport/family dog.
This is a site that does an excellent job of showing you what to look for and how to buy so you aren't ripped off.buyer beware
Generally the female Lab (in any color) is about 21-23.5" at the withers -
NOTE:Any variance greater than 1/2 " above or below these heights is a disqualification to be a true, registered AKC Labrador.
Bitches tend to weigh 55-70 lbs
.American Kennel Club - Labrador Retriever (here is more information)
Labrador Retriever Puppies, Golden Yellow, Chocolate Brown and Black Labrador Retriever Dogs (this breeder prepares your Lab with "puppy kindergarten training" and breeds for non hyper labs ,location is S.Carolina.) You can contact this person for an excellent reference to find your small Lab.
Lab Pups Guarantee -they also offer an excellent guarantee
I am positive I would buy from this breeder as long as what the website says is 100% true!
When Labs are raised with obedience training they are wonderful family dogs who love to run, play ball, play frisbee and more.
They can live in apartments if the owner is an active runner and can spend a couple hours a day playing with and training the dog.I have owned many Labs and do not recommend a life without exercise for a Labrador.
Also, since you are in Florida at this time you'll want to be sure never to let your dog drink salt water at the beach since it is like poison to a dog and can make them seriously ill or even cause death.
Should you decide you still want a Labrador there are many reputable breeders in Florida, watch your local newspaper classifieds for one near you.
Or you may want to consider having your dog flown here from where ever you think you can buy a smaller Lab.
Sincerely,Don
