Question

My "grandpupppy", Henry, is a 3 yr. old Schnauzer-Terrier mix. He has always exhibited spontaneous vomiting since he was very small, almost immediately after eating or drinking. For the past couple of months he has been doing more actual vomiting with retching & heaves. He is very healthy, has lots of energy, is not exhibiting any other signs of poor health. My daughter thinks it is stress related, as he often does it when she is about to leave for work, or when he comes over to my house and is very excited to see me. Her vet poohpoohed this idea, and recommended very expensive medical tests, while saying that surgery is rarely successful in correcting any esophagus problems. I advised her to seek a more holistic approach first, and seek advise on the internet for possible solutions and referrals to health professionals trained in alternative vet medicine. We are in Denver Colorado. Any help you can offer would be very much appreciated. Thank you!!

Here is a place to look for a holistic vet
http://www.holisticvetlist.com/#search
My concern would be this might be due to a problem with a misplaced artery, a liver shunt issue, or a vagus nerve problem, and mini schnauzers are very prone to problems with pancreatic inflammation.
If the vomit looks like undigested food the issue might be something called megaesophagus which you can read about here

You can try a homeopathic vet. You can see if some x-rays will show you any issues in the esophagus or if blood testing shows liver shunt issues.
You may also find the problem is in the food being fed. Dogs with a food intolerance will often vomit after eating. Swapping to an alternative food such as Wellness fish, rabbit, duck or venison might help.
Good luck with him!
