Question

I have a 4 month miniature dachsund that is just recovering from a severe bout of Parvo. We have had her home 5 days and she has developed a cough. Kind of a dry hacking cough that gags her. She is still eating well. What could be causing the cough? Is it related to the Parvo? Please help.

Dear friend,

I am so glad your baby was able to overcome Parvo. That is great news. If she was kept at an animal hospital during her illness, she may have contracted kennel cough. She should be scripted an antibiotic because her immune sytem has been weakened by the Parvo. Please talk to your vet abot this ASAP. In the meantime, feed her small frequent meals instead of large ones. Sprikle 100mg of Vitamin C on her food daily and give her plain pedialyte to replace her electrolytes.

Please let me know how she is and if you have any more questions. I will help in any way possible.

Very sincerely,

Terri
