Dear friend,
It is only safe to give your cat 2.5mg of diazapam (which is actually Valium) at one time. If you want him to be sedated at 8:00pm give it one hour before at 7:00PM. It is very important to give give this drug when your cat is not already anxious or upset because then it can have the reverse effect of making him hyper. Give this drug with food so his stomach does not get upset. In the fuure just buy Rescue remedy in a pet supply as that is safe and natural. You just put a little in his water and it keeps him calm for hours.
Please let me know if you have any more questions. I will be happy to help.
Best of luck in your new home.
Warmest best wishes,
Terri
The effects of Valium are cumulative so that means if you give him half a pill(2.5MG) now it will still be in his system at 7:00 tonight so he may be a little oversedated but it will not hurt him. When you take him out, cover the carrier with a sheet so he does not see himself being moved and keep him covered in the car and when taking him into the new apt. The problem is that cats will often meow for a few days when hey find themselves in a new environment so you may want to get soe feliway plug ins to keep him calm for a few days. Also, cats are very intuitive and he is going to pick up on your anxiety about this, which may make him nervous so try your best to sound and act calm around him.
Let me know if you still have questions.
As all the questions you like. I do not mind at all as that is why I am here.
Feliway plug ins are sold in some pet supplies or www.catfaeries.com They are a safe and natural tranquilizer that has a very calming effect on cats only. People and other animals are not affected. You plug it in like glade and it starts to work immediately. Read about it on the above link.
If you have any more questions just go ahead and ask me. I know this is very important to you and I am happy to help in any way possible.
Very sincerely,
If you give him 2.5mg (half a pill) now he may even still be sedated by 7:00 - If he is you may not even have to give him more because it stays in the system about 24 hours.
Why don't you give him sme now - with food and see how he is in a few hours.
I will be here til ten tonight so at six just relist your question and we will see how he is and decide how to proceed. I just do not want him to be oversedated.
