Question

I have 1996 1500 4X4. Four wheel drive actuautor is not engaging. Actuator has been changed previously and is the plastic revision version and the harness has also been changed. I have voltage on the 12 volt wires all the time, whether the shifter is in the two wheel drive or four wheel drive position but cannot reference ground on the third wire. I have confirmed that the actuator is not defective ( removed actuator, applied voltage and ground and the piston extended ). My questions are 1) should I have voltage in both the X XXXXX XXXXX lever posiition and the X XXXXX XXXXX lever position or only in the X XXXXX XXXXX position and 2) can I pick up a ground elsewhere (such as from the chasis) and apply that in place of the existing ground in the harness.

Thanks,
K

The schematic for the actuator has treminal A as the engage ment signal- terminal B as the control gound at the moduke(Gry/Blk) terminal E is ground and D is power.Go if you ground B the front axle will engage and stay engaged untill you remove the ground.
