Question

What I thought was an insect bite doesn't appear to be the problem. I developed bumps on the upper side of my left breast found when they began to itch. Later that evening I noticed the same type of bumps, (small welts that turn into blisters and then itch and seem to spread, but not localized. Almost a week later I still have the original rash as well as new ones on my body. What is the deal? It isn't bed bugs because my Mom slept in my bed and didn't break out. It doesn't appear to be contagious. I have been taking Levaquin 500mg, could that be the problem? Is it stress? What does a staff infection look like? It kind of looks like impentigo or herpes. I have had breakouts of lip herpes since I was a child, always due to stress or injury or illness.
Can you give me some answers?
Thank you,
Mary

If it's herpes as in shingles, it will spread along the route of a nerve. So in the case of your rash, if it started near the breast, it will likely go around the chest toward the axilla (red rash with small blisters - they will break and then crust over and heal). There are antiviral medicines now that can arrest the herpes before it gets too far. If you get started early (1st day or two) it will keep the outbreak to a minimum and lessen the chance of neuralgia as a long term problem (pain in the affected nerve/s). If you are having a general rash, yuo'll need to see the doc to see what this is. It could be due to the antibiotic that you are taking if it's generalized. Staph rash tends to be red, raised with pus in them - white or yellow material. Levaquin will actually treat staph. An antibiotic rash from the levaquin will look circular and be widespread. When it starts to fade, if you press on the spots, they'll disappear and then come back when you stop pressing.

If you still have days left on the levaquin doses, you should let the doc know so he can consider changing you to a different antibiotic.
