Question

I have a 93 GMC suburban. The key will not rotate back to the off position. I had to disconnect the battery to turn it off, and leave the key in the ignition in the on position. I believe it appears to also be rotated a slight bit more past the normal on position. Is this a common problem? Does it sound to be just a key/lock problem? Where should I start? I would like to take apart the starter and steering column. Is that a good start?

If you put the gear selector in neutral will it rotate further? If it is a tilt column, will it change if you tilt the column one way or another?
