My 17 year old son is going to a formal dance and says he wants to wear a standard necktie (i.e. not a bow tie) with a dinner suit. My husband has told him this is totally unacceptable, but I have just been told by a suit hire shop that it is becoming the fashion in Europe and the US to wear long ties with dinner suits. Is this true?
