Sent to General Experts September 10 07:37 PM

I am a California resident considering purchasing a medium size yacht which I would like to keep in Oregon. what if any personal property tax or sales tax is applicable in Oregon for a non resident. Also be advised I intend to take an offshore or Oregon delivery of vessel to avoid California Sales Tax.
Thank You

Dear Customer (name blocked for privacy),

Be carefull of this one. States are wising up to sales tax avoidance by boat owners. As long as your boat is docked, used, and registered in Oregon, you will most likely be ok. However, if in the future you take it to CA and register it, CA will look to take a sales tax on it, even if it has been several years since purchase. Of course you would get credit for any sales tax charged by Oregon.

Is this boat being purchased in California or Oregon? (without regard to taking possession).

YOUR PAYMENT AND BONUS IF ANY MAY BE TAX DEDUCTIBLE
