Question

I have a four and one half year old Lab/Rottweiler mix...Who four days ago began vomiting a white substance that looked like and had the consistency of beaten egg whites...He did retain his appetite after that, ate a full meal that morning, and then about an hour later threw it all up. Since then he has refused to eat, and of this morning began refusing to drink water. We had him to the Vet who ran some tests, said he had no temperature, xrayed him and "saw a little inflammation in the abdomen." He said Duke showed positive for a urinary tract infection, and prescribed 375 milligrams of Clavamox to be given twice daily. He also gave him an injection. Duke's condition has continued to deteriorate to the point which I now fear that he will not make it.....Any help that you could give would be most appreciated....

Please take your boy into the emergency center immediately. His condition could be related to multiple causes but my concern is the fact that he has not eaten in 4 days. Dogs who do not eat for this extended time can develop a condition called hepatic lipidosis or fatty liver disease which can be fatal without treatment. At this point he is most likely severely dehydrated. He needs to be placed on fluids and have a blood profile performed to rule out organic disease like kidney failure or pancreatitis. My initial concern is possible foreign body obstruction (toys, socks, bones, rawhides) or toxic ingestion like having access to antifreeze. There is nothing that can be done from home at this point. He needs to be seen.

Please let me know if you would like further information.
