Info Request

Hi

I do believe your car is fitted with the Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical fuel injection system.

When exactly does it cut out? Is it whilst you're driving and you have your foot on the gas?

Is it at wide open throttle or just whilst driving casually?

Is it whilst the car is stood still at idle?

Is it after you rev the engine and then take your foot off the gas and the revs fall to idle?

Cheers

Reply to Geordie's Post: I think I do - I know that it is fuel injected. sometimes it is while i am driving casually, also it has happened when I am slowing down. Sometimes it has happened when I turn off the car, and go to the store - I come back and it will not start. Usually will have to wait at the very least a half hour for it to start again.

Answer

Okay.

Do the electrics fail as well as the engine (dash lights etc)?

Accepted Answer

The ignition switch is the primary switch in the circuit and they can fail quite easily. One sure sign is cut out and electrical failure.

Remove the plastic cowelling from around the steering column to gain access to the switch and then check all the inputs and outputs.

there should be a permanent live to the switch via a red wire if I'm not mistaken.

When you turn the key to the on position (2 clicks) 2 other wires should then be live and I believe they are black/yellow and grey in colour, but the colours may not be exact.

If you don't find the lives as above then renew the switch.

Let me know how you get on.

Cheers
