Accepted Answer

Staph is a bacteria that naturally lives on the dogs body. Infections are usually triggered by a scratch, irritation, or allergies which enable the bacteria to move in and accumulate causing pustules, sores, and hot spots. Since all dogs already have the staph bacteria on their bodies and it is caused secondarily by allergies, etc. infections are not contagious to either dogs or people.
