What plants do I need to use for an Autumn/Winter Garden

I have just taken up gardening as a hobby and now that Autum is just around the corner, I would like advise as to what's best to plant and when?

Reply to John Baker's Post: Sorry, I didn't realise initially that I had to pay, and don't trust payments over e'mail, but never mind.

As you have come back to me, I was wondering what type of plants/flowers would be good for the Autumn/Winter and when should I start to dig up summer flowers in order to prepare for the winter.

I have a big garden, with boarders along one side incorporating Roses and various plants, with pansies and primroses and a trellace of Sweetpea growing. I want to keep it flowered to look pretty.
