I am making my own glass ball christmas tree ornaments this year and I'm having trouble getting the paint to stick to the inside of the ball, how can I etch the inside glass so the paint will stick? I've tried vinegar, pebbles, sand, the freezer and to no avail. I use the paint recommended but it just won't stick. It collects in the bottom of the ball.

The problem is actually not that the paint is not sticking but it is not drying so the paints runs to the bottom of the globe. Heat can often speed the drying process and turning the glass ball to allow the paint to flow all over instead of going to the bottom of the ball will also help. The heat from a blow dryer like used for your hair will supply enough heat to speed the drying process. Blowing air across the opening will also help.

There are several products on the market that can be used to etch glass. Etch Bath is one such product. Etch all is another product that will work very well. Your local craft store should have these or similar products. Just follow the directions on the product used to etch your glass balls. Using a fast drying paint like lacquer will speed the drying process.
