Answer

Sometimes treatment can be as long as 6 months and sometime even longer but you should start seeing improvement at 4-6 weeks. It won't infect you so don't worry about that. Sounds like your vet is on the right track.

Reply to ZooCVT's Post: The bites have already infected four people. So, it will infect people. The yorkie looks better, than he breaks out with sores all over his stomach. His little ears are all crusty and hard around the edges. He has crusty sores one his paws and now around his tail and rectom, and on his head. He has lost hair...Is this the revolution reacting or the mange?

Answer

No it won't infect humans...just like flea's will bite some people, they won't infect humans. The mange reacting to the treatment may be causing the scabing or it may just be the mange causing the scabs, its hard to say. I would definately stay on the treatment though and not deter from it at all. It sounds as though its working.

Reply to ZooCVT's Post: The bites are like a mosquito bite only it has a little black center and itches alot. They are a perfect round circle and as they dry they leave a round scar. Similar to ringworm. They are exactly the same bites on my dog. They do eventually go away but when he breaks out...we do.

Is there anything else we can put on his ears, head and paws? Should these scabs (crusts) go away soon? It is almost like a hard wax but not.

Are these area's just where the mites are coming out (in the mucus areas)?

Answer

The scabs are irritated area's. Bathing with an oatmeal shampoo will help the seborrea and the itching if there is any. I would check with your vet the best shampoo to assist with the treatment that would lessen the scabbing.

Reply to ZooCVT's Post: It sounds as though you do not have a lot of experience in sarcoptic-mange (scabies) either. We are finding...most vets do not have a lot of knowledge in this area. And...six vets in Co. and Nv. have been treating him for over a year and they are questioning themselves.

If you know someone who raises Yorkies, please send me their name and number.

Thank you for your response, but I still do not have answers.

Answer

Actually I do in fact have much experience with sarcoptic mange. You had said in your intial post that your vet had been treating for 3-4 months, not over a year though that really isn't an issue. I thought I have answered everythin g you have asked though I will try and answer any questions you have if you will let me try.
