Question

I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 5.7 liter. The a/c is not working. It blows warm air. I purchased a can of the new refrig.-oiler-sealant, followed the instructions with no luck. I noticed that the compressor would not stay running. It would go on & off in approx. 10 second intervals. The line which I attached the can & gauge to got cold as the engine was running but, no cold air enterred the vehicle. Is the compressor shot? If not what else can it be? I would greatly appreciate your suggestions!

How many cans of refrigerant did you put in?

Reply to BOBBY's Post: Less than a full can, the gauge on the can was bouncing between full & the problem portion because the compressor was kicking on & off.

Answer

The compressor is going to kick on and off usually if the system is low. There may be an alterior problem, but I would continue to add the rest of the can and see what it does. With more refrigerant in the system the compressor should stay on longer. See if this happens and let me know.

Reply to BOBBY's Post: I just went back to the truck & emptied the remainder of the can into it & the air is coming out colder, but not cold enough yet. I noticed on the compressor sticker that the original charge was labeled as 1.75lbs. of refrigerant & the can only supplies 15ozs.. I believe if I add another can it will do the trick.I will try it in the morning because the supplier is closed now & get back to you. Thank-You.
