We have a 2005 toshiba theaterview SD, we purchased a few months ago. Several times while watching, the picture disappears except for a microthin line of brightness across the middle of the screen- horizontal- which appears to be the picture condensed into a tiny space help

Reply to John Baker's Post: It is under limited warranty after 90 days. I would like to see if this is a common problem before I have to lug this very large TV to an "authorized Service center." It happens sporadically, but suddenly, spontaneously the screen goes black as if the picture has contracted hoizontally, into an, almost imperceptible, thin line. The sound remains and within the thin horizontal line you can see the moving lights of the broadcast still occurring. often, if I turn the set off and back on, it returns to normal only to occur later.

This can be a common problem in all sets but it is an indication that repair is necessary. The circuitry in the set is defective. A very common possible cause is a cold solder connection. Turning the set off and back on will cause a increase in voltage that will temporary make the connection conduct. Hitting the set sometimes will also make the set work temporary. This is a problem that should be repaired. Intermittent problems can be hard to detect without the proper equipment and training. I would suggest that you have your set repaired before the warranty expires. Unless repaired this will be a more frequent occurring problem.
