Question

I have a bengal female who is having a problem with her tongue staying out all the time and she is constantly salivating. She has not eaten or drank any water in hours. She also has not gone to the bathroom. She is staying under my bed. She kind of has a wild look about her. Her pupils seem to dilated some. There seems to be no fever. She has an odor on her. I don't know if this is from her saliva or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Checked to see if there was anything for her to get into and there wasn't.

Does she stay indoors or outside and are you sure that there is nothing she could have gotten into, including any flowers, or anti-freeze, etc?

Reply to Cheryl K.'s Post: Yes I am sure she stays indoors all the time. She is holding her head listly sometimes. She tried to eat and her head turns to one side. She acts like someone who has had a stroke of some kind

Accepted Answer

It is possible that she did have a stroke and you should have her seen to make sure that this has not occured. If she is showing signs of her tongue hanging out this can also be the sign of a respiratory problem as well. It does sound like a toxic reaction but if you are sure she could not have gotten into anything then this could indicate seizure or a stroke. The odor is most likely caused from the saliva but can also occur with a toxic reaction as well. If there are no signs of fever then this can rule out a bacterial infection. It is possible that she has an inner ear infection though and this could cause some of the symptoms that she is displaying but with all that you are seeing and the fact that she does not seem to have a desire for food or water is another indication of illness. I would make it a point to have her seen for a full examination and bloodwork to determine if she is having seizures or has possibly had a stroke especially if she is older.
