How do I erase existing info on the map requestiing

Since I am a first-time user and the question relates to using Google, I am not going to pay. How do I erase existing info on the map ?. There is info there that is not mine and I can/t get rid of it so that I can enter my own info.. This is the first time I have tried to use Google Maps and the strange info was already there
