One of the first things you need to do is look into purchasing a crate (an airline crate is best) for your dog so that he has some sense of security during these difficult times for him. I cannot guarantee that it will help him calm his fears but at least you know he isn't going to hurt himself or damage any part of the home while frantically looking for relief. There are multiple herbal products on the market claiming to decrease anxiety and some do seem to provide some benefit. Melatonin, Rescue Remedy, Calmplex2000. And also medications that can be prescribed by your veterinarXXX XXke Acepromazine and Valium. The problem with these medications is that they do not remove the fear just remove their ability to react to fear. All medications should be given at least 30 minutes prior to such stressful events or they may not produce results. We always put my dog in a crate and covered her up, the crate was located in the living room so we left the television on fairly loud.
