Question

The last couple of days my dog, Parker
(is 7 - 8 mths old) has become less active, today I think he may have a fever, he won't drink hardly any water, not having a bowel movement since this morning, and druelling thick clear mucous. He's very restless like he can't get comfortable. Our vet is not open until Monday, (I went today and they were closed) He i still eating. He was fixed 3 weeks ago and just had his stiches out last Saturday. What should I do and should I take him to emergency animal hospital? Thank you, Annette

Answer

Annette:

You can check to see if Parker has a fever by inserting a well lubricated thermometer about 1 inch into his rectum. Hold for 2 min (unless it is digital). Normal is 100-102.5. If it is above that, I suspect infection somewhere internally. The fluid you are seeing him drool usually happens due to stomach upset. If it is at all possible that Parker got into something toxic, chemical or plant, he will need veterinary care immediately. Keep him hydrated by using plain pedialyte from a dropper. Becuase he was just altered a few weeks ago, I would really have to recommend an emergency visit. Please let me know how you make out and hope he feels better very soon. :)
