Based on experience, I make it a practice not to make inquiry calls on behalf of customers. Doing so opens up too many possibilities for miscommunication, or ending up with an incomplete or less-than-satisfactory answer -- which can quickly lead to dissatisfaction on the part of the customer.

Whereas if the customer makes the inquiry call directly, they have full opportunity to recognize the need for and ask pertinent follow-up questions and/or obtain clarification -- and, by making the contact themselves, they may develop a useful contact for future needs.
