Question

I'm having a new problem with a panic bar. When push

Sent to General Experts July 21, 2006 3:32 p.m.

I'm having a new problem with a panic bar. When push bar is depressed the latch pulls all the way in. I then lock the bar in place and the latch slips out just a little bit. This causes door to "lock" when closed (even though the bar is physically in unlock posistion, the latch protrudes just far enough to pass the latch holder on the door frame). I've tried adjusting the latch holder bith forward and back, but when moved forward far enough so latch won't engage, the door won't lock when the bar is released. Is there an adjustment that will remedy my situation - about 1/32" is all I need. Or is the mechanism just worn and needs replaced? It's about 10 yrs old and is used repeatedly 12 hrs/day 6 days a week.
