my bullmastiff has had some baffling symptoms over the past 24 hrs. Yesterday he had some swelling and redness around his mask and eyes. We gave him aspirin, benadryl, and cold compresses, and it went away. He was without symptoms all day, now has a swollen eye and his ears are swollen and feel like fluid is in them. Any ideas?

This is most likely an allergic reaction to something. I would advise you to continue what you have been doing for tonight and get him to a vet in the morning. If the benadryl is taking it down, then it is a reaction releasing histamines. Benadryl blocks the action of the histamine, but it does not prevent its release. A steroid shot will help prevent the release of the histamine from the reaction.
