Question

cracked glass project

Sent to General Experts July 18, 2006 4:22 p.m.

My son and I made a large "flying" eagle from stained glass. We took a stained glass class at an art center while on vacation, and we don't have anything similar here at home. The large pieces of glass that formed the basis of the wings cracked on the way home. The solder held, and the pieces are still in place, but it seems very fragile, and I'm afraid to hang it suspended (so the hinged wings can spread). I can't replace the pieces because I don't have the equipment. Is there anything I can spread on the glass that will hold it in place and provide some structure/support and keep it from breaking any more?

REPLIED Check Mark

Super Glue and like products can be used successfully to repair the glass.

Epoxy could then be used if extra support was needed.

I can't get superglue into the crack. This will not work.

Sorry

ACCEPTED Check Mark

If you apply the super glue very heavy and let it dry, if there is a crack the super glue will permeate the crack.

The excess can be scraped off using a razor blade scraper of acetone (fingernail polish remover.

The epoxy will also support the break.
