eBay bidding

I just had an eBay autobid failure that I don't understand. The auction closed at my full bid rather than the second highest plus the increment as expected. Here is the bid list:
User ID               Bid Amount      Date of bid
crouching_geezer ( 205) US $60.00 Jul-16-06 14:30:16 PDT
bobcat-baby ( 50)             US $40.00 Jul-12-06 18:58:34 PDT
bobcat-baby ( 50)             US $35.00 Jul-12-06 18:58:21 PDT
bobcat-baby ( 50)             US $30.00 Jul-12-06 18:58:06 PDT
bobcat-baby ( 50)             US $20.00 Jul-12-06 18:57:45 PDT
The auction id is XXXXXXXXXXX7. I used hammersnipe bidding 7 seconds prior to the end that has always worked w/no problem in the past.

I believe there are other snipe programs, one being "esnipe" which puts bids in at the time one specifies. If someone bid the same high bid as yours and put the snipe to bid before your 7 seconds one, like at 8 or more seconds before auction end, the person who places their bid first gets the win, even if the amounts are the same.

Let me know if there's any further questions about this. Please press the "ACCEPT" if you are satisfied with this answer. "Reply"
if you need further explanation. Bonuses are always welcome too! PS - I am an ebay seller also.

Reply to B. Shapiro's Post: Hi Barbara,

I can't verify that you understood my issue. I'm not concerned because I lost - I won. The problem was that the autobid did not operate as expected.

Taking your example and applying to my facts: What if another bid is what caused the maximum amount to be billed rather than the 2nd high plus the increment amount that's conventional.

The way that would work is that there was another bid that was either equal to or exactly one increment lower than mine and it arrived AFTER mine did having the effect of triggering my exact full bid amount - but it was not displayed.

That is not satisfying because one must accept assertions of an (A) undocumented and (B) unexpected behavior.

(A) So far as I know, there's no place that eBay discusses which valid bids are or are not displayed.

(B) If eBay doesn’t include their bid in the list, how could the person making the assumed coincidental bid validate that it had been received and if it was the same amount, rejected based on the timestamp?

Sorry, I'm no closer to understanding what happened. Thanks for trying!!

Can you toss this one back?

Cheers,
**Jeff**

Reply to Lev's Post: email from eBay, auction results from eBay and the seller, results from hammersnipe

Why do you ask?

Reply to Lev's Post: Thanks, that worked! My bid was the minimum winning amount based on the previous bidder's previously undisclosed max. I'm off to approve the fee.

Cheers,
**Jeff**
