1985 force boat engine help please

i have a 1985 force boat engine it was running but when i stopped it it wont restsrt now it seams to be going backwards hen i try to start it. it takes thefly wheel the wrong way what could be wrong its like the teeth dont match up i have a new batt. and a brand new starter and stator and coils also cd modules can you help please
