According to all the spy shows I've ever watched on Discovery Channel,
everyone spies on everybody. England spies on us. France spies on us. I
imagine Germany spies on us. We spy on absolutely everyone.
The problem is, I can't give you reliable sources on this. Reliable
sources don't exist. If I looked up spying on a search engine, I would
get a bunch of sponsored links to spy equipment, a few more or less
interesting history sites, and a bunch of useless conspiracy sites.
The Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND) is the German
spy agency. Germany has recently proposed harmonizing European Union
intelligence gathering by forming a combined spy service. England is
not keen on the idea.
What would they be looking for? Simply, advantage. Spying is not done
with a particular goal in mind. You don't know what you need to know
till you know it. Of course, there are spy missions on particular
topics, but the vast majority of spying is simply monitoring. You
listen to know, and if you know, and the official line is not the same
as what you know, you know that too. You know?
