Relist: No answer yet.
currently we are trying to use a carbide drill; .633" dia and have used 0.003" per revolution and 275 rpm; there must be a better setting because the drill lasted only half a part.

I have not received an answer to the original question of best feeds and speeds and type of drill to use.

Thanks for trying to get an answer quickly.
greetings,
Clem

Hello,

After consulting with another expert with 40+ years experience as a machinist his recommendation would be running the part at a .006" feed rate, 500 - 550 RPM, and make sure you flood the part with coolant. Carbide is a very tough material and is designed to run at higher speeds than other bits. Also it has to stay cool and you have to make sure that the scraps are being flushed away from the part being drilled.

Thank You,

Michael D.

If at first you don't succeed, so much for sky diving.
