Identifying a large flying bumble bee looking beetle that flew out of my chimney around february. They seemed to be startled by some home repairs being done in a different part of the house maybe rattling them. Can you help?

Reply to Shelia's Post: it was caramel colored with a large butt ( like a bumble bee ). It looked to have a point on the end like it would be a stinger. I do know one thing for sure though and it was not a bee. I studied the critter for long periods of time, after it was dead of course. It flew out/down and made a strange noice as it flew and darted right for the closed window trying to escape. He was captured and let loose then 10m later another came down but seemed to be stuck on his back and with the wings in he looked to have the body shape and other traits of a beetle. He unfortunately died after awhile while chillin under a cardboard box for a while.
does any of this help?

Reply to Shelia's Post: Ok so yo have an idea of the size, great. It is the size of a carpenter bee but its wings fold under its armour when not in flight making it one large funky looking bug.
