Sent to General Experts June 28 04:36 PM

I have forgotten how to wire a "double light" lamp. One that has a three-way switch where first turn lights the top bulb; second turn lights a small bulb in the bottom , and third turn lights both bulbs. Can you help me please?

Hello and thank you for the question. If you have a multi-meter you can test the various leads for continuity to verify which wire is which. You will have a hot in and 2 switched leads out. If you get it wrong the worst is the top and bottom lights will be reversed. Let me now if you need more help

Reply to David DeKeyser's Post: Hi Dave..... I need a diagram of which wires go where. There is the regular cord with the plug and also the small bulb light that snaps into the bottom of the lamp with two wires. All four wires will go up to the lamp socket which has a three way turn knob. First turn lights up the top section; second turn lights up the small bulb in the base, and third turn puts both lights on... top and bottom. I can't tell anything from what you wrote. Please send instructions for above hook-up. Thanks.

Hello again , my appologies , I thought you were dealing with the other style wich has a seperate switch.

In your case there should be 3 screws on the socket , the plug from the wall will go to the brass and silver screw, and the wires for the bulb in the base will go to the silver and (black) screw. The third screw may be a different color than black. See this page http://www.lightingfacts.com/Lamp%20Wiring.html for a diagram near the bottom of the page. If you need more help or if thiis different from yours let me know and I'll be able to help further.
