You TV seems to have several problems.
The shutting off is most likely do to a overload on the power supply.
Most likely caused by a bad capacitor.
Due to it's age I would not recommend repair.
The prices of a TV have come down greatly.
You can purchase a Sanyo 32 inch flat screen TV at Walmart for $417.
The Sanyo is a very dependable TV and has a very good picture.
If you purchase a new TV stay away from the RCA.
They are not very dependable and tend to have a poor quality picture.
If you purchase a TV from Walmart, make sure it is in a unopened box.
Walmart will sell products that have been used as new.
I know I used to work part time in Walmart's Electronics Dept.
If you decide to have you Phillips repaired the amount you pay for the repair would make a pretty good dent in the price of a new TV.
After the Phillips was repaired, if it even could be repaired, you would have a 15 year old TV that will most likely need more repair soon.
Parts for you Phillips may not even be available due to the age of your set.
If it were repaired there would be many parts that would or should be replaced.
You would be much better off with a new TV.
I hoped I help in making your choice.
Good luck with your decision.
