Question

My kitten's eyes seem to be 'oozing' quite often. I find that I am cleaning out his eyes about 3 times a day. What could be causing this?

What type of discharge are you getting from the eye? clear? mucous? green? yellow?

Any squinting?

Reply to michele's Post: He doesn't seem to be squinting, but the discharge is kind of a mix between clear and greenish. Of course then it dries and looks kind of brownish. I did notice last night that his right side of his nose looks like it's running a little bit as well. And I have noticed that he has been sneezing occasionally. Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Answer

He may have the beginnings of a respriatory infection which are causing these symptoms. If you are getting a greenish discharge, he should be seen by the vet and the vet will most likely want to start him on an eye antibiotic. He/she may also want to start your little guy on some oral antibiotics. You can wait another day or so as long as he is not squinting, still eating and is bright and alert. If he changes for the worse, or the condition is not resolving, he should be seen. Best of luck to you and your furry friend.
