how does someone get an acting agent in new york city?

i recently attented american acad of dramatic arts. i have been told that you need an agent to, get acting work. i've also been told that you need to show acting work to get an agent. it is almost like a catch 22.

Yes, you would definitely need services of an acting agent. A classified add in NEW York Times should do the trick or Yellow pages must have listing for acting agent. The drama school you are attending should have contacts for acting agents, try speaking to some nice admin staff of school. Good luck.
