Answer

Hi, I have always used hairspray with success on ball point pen ink stains.

PLEASE always spot test on similar fabrics before trying any spot removal technique as you never know how fabrics might respond to removal attempts.

Here are some ideas:

First, try to remove any of the ink that you can by sponging with water and then wait for the spot to dry.

Then, set the stained area facedown on a paper towels or a clean cloth.

Spray the back side (the side facing you) with hairspray. You can also use rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover.

Blot with a clean cloth to remove as much ink as possible.

Apply a laundry pretreatment spot remover.

Warm water wash and then air dry.

Another idea is to try milk. It sounds like an old wives tale, but also sounds like an easy one to try without too much fear of fabric damage if it doesn't work.

Some people swear by Shout (which you could use in the first suggestion above).

And others say that Orange Degreaser/Cleaner found in stores such as Home Depot in the cleaning supply aisle work great too.

Again, please do a spot test first on any fabric and with any of these methods so that you can first see how the fabric is going to respond to your attempt. Wait until it dries so you really know.

Good luck!

Thanks!
